This day tour was the perfect way to see Pisa in just a few hours. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable. Walking around Piazza dei Miracoli was amazing. I thought we would only see the Leaning Tower, but the square had so much more to see. Seeing the Cathedral from the outside was beautiful. I didn't go in this time, but if I ever come back, I'll definitely enter it. The trip from Florence was smooth, and I loved having transport included. This is one of the best options for a day trip from Florence!
I finally visited the tower in Pisa, and it was even more impressive in person! Lorenzo, our guide, explained why it is tilted. He also shared stories about its bells. The square is beautiful, and my wife really enjoyed taking photos with the tower. Even though we didn’t go inside the tower, the optional cathedral visit added to the experience. It was much grander than I thought it would be. This is a must-do for anyone visiting Tuscany!

Interesting facts about the Leaning Tower of Pisa
IT IS PART OF A LARGER COMPLEX
The Leaning Tower was never meant to stand alone. It’s actually the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
IT TOOK NEARLY 200 YEARS TO FINISH
Construction began in 1173 and wasn’t completed until 1372. The delay was caused by wars, a lack of funds, and construction stops due to the tower’s increasing tilt.
IT IS NOT THE ONLY LEANING TOWER IN PISA
Pisa has more leaning towers, including those of San Nicola and San Michele degli Scalzi. The tower in Pisa is the most famous worldwide, but the Leaning Tower of Suurhusen in Germany tilts more.
THE TOWER’S TILT HAS CHANGED OVER TIME
The tower first began to lean after the second floor was built, starting at just 0.2 degrees. Its tilt reached about 5.5 degrees in the 1990s. Now, major stabilization work has brought it down to about 3.97 degrees.
THE TOWER IS NOT JUST LEANING; IT’S ALSO SLIGHTLY CURVED
Engineers tried to counteract the early tilt by building the upper floors taller on one side. This correction attempt created a subtle curve in the tower’s structure.
GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
- It is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Bring water and sun protection, or a light jacket in the cooler months.
- This tour is not suitable for visitors who wish to climb the Leaning Tower and have limited mobility. While the area around Piazza dei Miracoli is mostly flat and easy to walk on, the tower itself is not accessible due to its narrow spiral staircase.
- Modest clothing is required for cathedral entry. Shoulders and knees must be covered.
- Eating is not allowed inside the cathedral.
Meeting Point
The meeting point is at the main bus stop at Piazzale Montelungo, Florence, Italy. Your tour guide will wait for you there!
